Heyoh!

It's been awhile since my last post.  Found some older pics that never made it.. they were interesting, so giving them a post.

Noobhammer group is still playing every Saturday.  We've mixed up armies a bit for variety, and I have to say... Chaos sucks against 5ed Armies.  Fun to play, but geesh!

I bought all of Jawaballs Dark Eldar, *Thanks Jawa!*, and have alot of figs and raiders to put together.  Think this will be my last army.  With the announcement that UK shops can't ship to the U.S. (no more waylandgames.co.uk orders), and announcement of price hikes.   I'm done.  This is a fun game... but not that fun.  I have plenty of figs to keep me going.  If I can't find it on eBay, then so be it.

On to some interesting pics in the collection (thanks to MattG)

Chaos Take Four

Still mucking around with the color schemes.  I really like the Red/Purple, however trying to get it right is tough.  For one, I don't see it the way everyone else does.

I have gone with a darker purple, and still trying to land the red.  I included a "before" picture.  As some of you know, the Chaos figs are in disarray and I'm repainting.  So I have my Icon Bearer that is coming up next.

As you can see, I'm just going to keep painting the squad, and compare figs to determine the colors I like :-)

ugly..
can you tell the difference in shades?

Moving On...

I paid extra close attention to mold lines.

After spending way too much time on one fig, I've moved on.

I have the Daemonettes and Gargoyles built and primed.  Started painting the Gargoyles a bit tonight, was hoping to get more done but I've been slacking.

I stuck as to a scheme for the Daemonettes, thinking a pink base, purple wash, pink/white top coat, white highlights... wow that's a mouthful.

Chaos Color Schemes, again

Reworked a bit better
I reworked the purple.  Essentially mixing my own adding some Mordian Blue and using the Purple Wash.

I like it, the contrast is there, but still not what I was going for.

Chaos Color Schemes

This is where I suffer.  I'm color blind, so I typically have to search the net for schemes I like and note the colors used.

So, I venture out on my own to come up with a Slaneesh/Khorne (hehe I know) scheme.

This is what you get when you give a color blind guy paints...

NOT complete, Just base color for ideas

1G Month Two, Chaos

Chaos

This army became a close second behind Tyranids on the "eagerness" to paint scale.  I was just muddling through this months list, and just came up with this fluffy idea for a Khorne Warband.  They would be a wandering marauding band of berserkers, that have attracted the interest of some Slaneesh followers.

Toss in a song from Slayer, and Reign in Blood was born.  I have ALOT more I want to do to these guys, but I did get the "Table Top" requirement met.

1G Month Two

MONTH TWO IS DUE
Click for Larger
Month two is in the books.  I've finished all the Space Wolves requirements (1850), save for minor touch-ups here and there.  Orks at 1000 points.  Tyranid total is over a 1000 points.  Chaos total is more than the 1000 points.

I still have to gather up and organize all the photos' but wanted to get the full shot uploaded to show that I met the month two Deadline.

Month Two Paint List
Quick rundown of what I painted this past month

Orks:
11xBoyz, 1xNob, 7xStormboyz, 3xBikez, 3xWarbuggies, 1xWarboss w/ PK, and a Truk.

Chaos:
Completed Rhino, Repainted Defiler, Kharn, repainted Land Raider

Tyranids:
5xGenestealers, 1xCarnifex, 1xTrygon, 1xBroodlord

Space Wolves:
All touch up!  I was missing quite a bit of spots here and there.  Though I got most of it, but going thru the pics, I can see areas I missed.  Optics on Lascannon, mud on a trak, etc.

Final Thoughts
This past month was a bit of a struggle.  I'm still enjoying the painting, but have no real desire to paint Orks.  I found myself painting everything BUT Orks.

I was practicing Slaneesh color schemes on Chaos Terminators, painting blood drops on a Chaos Landraider, painting a Carnifex which isn't due for two months, etc.  Anything but painting Orks.  So I just sat down after work two nights in a row and knocked em' out.

Reign in Blood

I'm really digging my Chaos guys.  This Khorne theme I have going is sweet!  I decided to name this warband "Reign in Blood", name came to me thinking of what embodies Khorne... First thing that came into mind was Slayer - Raining Blood.

For their badge, I'm painting blood drops raining on a black backdrop.

Tried to paint some drops on the Land Raider... not finished but the base looks ok so far.

Just finished priming a batch of nids, gotta cut this short so I can paint em' up.  Shooting for the dip tomorrow night, LW.

Fex Magnents

Finished up the mold lines on the Carnifex and Termagants.  I honestly believe out of the 180+ mini's I've painted over the last few months, mold lines on the Termagants have been the worst.

Also magnetized the Carnifex, but will probably rework the mount points a bit.  I'm not happy with the posing options.

Talons and Claws want to be way up..
or way down.

No real in between.  Just the way it works unless you go back and rework.
What worked on the Hive Tyrant was putting a dab of paint in the joint, and then putting on the Arm(or Claw) in a position that I liked that I could rotate.  This just didn't work for the Carnifex.  Some really awkward angles, so a little trimming is needed.

Bad pic of Kharn.  Not too worried about pics, as Matt G is "Da Man", and offered to take some Month Two Pics :-)

His pictures make my figs look better than they really are. (unlike my pic above, which makes em' look worse)

1G Moving Forward

Chaos
I've been modifying the Chaos lists as I've become more interested in these 'Spikey Boyz'.  Initially when I decided to paint all this stuff, I just filled out lists with what I had available (or wouldn't totally cost me an arm and a leg).  I've since made alot of changes.

I've moved away from an Abaddon/Black Legion List supported by the followers of Khorne, and switched it around to a Khorne dominated list, supported by Black Legion.  I'm swapping Abbadon for Kharn(sp), making the Bikers Khorne based, and lastly the Chaos Space Marines will have Icon of Khorne.

I plan on keeping the vehicles and a Defiler Black Legion.  World Eaters have broken up into warbands, so I envision it's a Warband of World Eaters that have a few Black Legionaires supporting them.

Orks

Orks have been a bit of a problem.  I have alot of Ork stuff on hand, from back when I first tried to get into 40k, unfortunately I have quite a bit that cannot be used.  Offender, Fast Attack choices.  The only thing I can think of, was that I was trying to do Speed Freaks.  Not knowing anything about the game, I'm sure I just read a list on GW's site, and bought stuff.  The result is I have various fast attack units that I cannot use.

Another issue is Power Klaws, I've got quite a collection of Nobz, from an eBay purchase 3 (or 4) years ago, to Black Reach Nobz... Only one has a Power Klaw.  So I'm scanning eBay when I get home.

Lastly, Orks are cheap from a points standpoint.  I can barely squeeze out an 1850 list, but the models won't be WYSIWIG if I can't find the PKs'.

Tyranids
First and foremost... THANK YOU JOE!

Tyranids was the one army I was starting completely from scratch (if you don't count the fact that a month or so prior I didn't own any Space Wolves either).  So I knew I was going to spend some cash, thou I really didn't want to spend alot.  It's one thing to invest in a hobby to play, etc.  It's another to invest in folly (ie tale of one gamer).

Well this is a problem no longer.  My a buddy of mine (actually more than a buddy, known him since we were 9), and fellow Noobhammer member, plays Nids.  He has been struggling on a color scheme, and never wasn't totally sure what scheme to go with.   I am pleased to announce that when I mentioned my whoas, he thought long and hard and decided to strip the models he had painted already and donate some units to The Cause.

So Joe will be letting me borrow a Carnifex(proxy for Tervigon), Genestealers, and about 6 Termagants so I don't have to purchase anything more (remember, I have a Wayland Games shipment on the way).  It was really cool of him to agree to just paint his army the same scheme I'm using, so I could borrow the figs.

Space Wolves, nada... the Army is done.  Just have to coordinate some time with Matt to take some pictures.

Black Templars... I know.. everyone is saying "What? Templars?"  .. yea, I have a disease.  Since GW updated the FAQ, I may just be painting some of these guys along the way ;-)  I reeeeeally like their fluff!  Just freaking Crusading Zealots, Awesome!

So.. until I finish up the Orks and Trygon on working on... peaCe out ;-)

1G Month One, Chaos

So next up is Chaos.    As I go down the path, the lists keep changing.  I really love the World Eater fluff, and my 'mixed' Chaos Army Lists are morphing into Khorne dominated ones.

I really thought painting this army would be a time saver, as there are few figs.  I was wrong.  Most of the figs had some paint on them, and put together.  Oh boy!  It took alot of work to redo these figs, scrape bases, reapply paint, etc.  Hindsight being 20/20, I would've been better off just stripping them.  I have learned from my mistake, and will be stripping roughly 20 Orks for next month.  No paint, is better than Bad Paint.

So without any more babbling.. May I present Chaos Kill Maim Burn, Kill Maim BURN!

Daemon Prince
Skulls for the Skull Throne!
Not nearly as large as the first batch of Orks, but hey their Chaos.  Next months deadline will bring a bit more interesting bits.

Stay tuned next post, as the swarm approaches...

1G: I'm Not Your BOOTLICK!

Repainting is Work
Working on Berzerker's tonight, and it is ALOT of work.  Most of these figs are painted to one degree or another.  All of them bad!  Fortunately, I've been blazing thru em' tonight.. hence the motivation to post and take pics :-)

I thinned a couple of red's and did a complete touch up of the base color.  Then applied Baal Red wash.  I redid all the brass bits with Dwarf Bronze, and began the second wash with full strength Delvan Mud.

BREAK THEIR BACKS!!

So far so good, but these will be a tedious road of touch up work.  Good News, I've been in a super painting mood last few days.  Since knocking out the Orks, I've gotten excited about possibly wrapping up early, however that is looking more and more unlikely.

I can feel the warp overtaking me.. it's a good pain!

I received the missing leg for the Hive Tyrant from GW, their support was excellant btw :-)  Magnetized him, and primed him.  Broke a bit on my Dremel  during this process.  The plastics were easy as pie, the metal was a PAIN!

Ready for paint, magnets(and Hive Tyrant) from anthem-games.com :-)
Have a super busy weekend!  Friday night Birthday Party, Saturday is Gasparilla with the Family, not sure when I'll find time to paint.  I maybe pushing it a bit as there is only 10 days left for me to finish o.O

What's left....

Hive Tyrant, 12x Berserker's, 2x Skull Champ's.

My First Real Game

I had my first real game last Thursday at LGS (Anthem in Tampa, FL).  Was 1000pts Thousand Sons vs. Space Wolves.

I have to be honest, don't remember much from the game.  I went in nervous, meeting new people, not wanting to screw up too terribly, and just worrying about looking like a complete dork!  Basically, not in a frame of mind to really enjoy myself.

Then the absolute BEST moment in the game came turn 3.  My opponent realized that he had gotten the Toughness incorrect on his Daemon Prince, and I had been trying to wound rolling 6's instead of 5's in assault.  Why was this the best moment?  Because up until that point, I was tentative, nervous, and worried.  Then I realized, no matter how long you've played, it's ok to forget and mistakes happen, and immediately I mellowed out and started actually having FUN!!!

He was really apologetic about it, but to me it was the best thing that could've happened, after that moment I had a great time the rest of the game and was able to enjoy myself, enjoy the game, enjoy the conversation.  I really learned alot from him, and two important aspect's of the game that my noob buddies and I were completely doing wrong!

Awesome game, awesome experience, and I can't wait to do it again!

I didn't get alot of pictures of the battle, but did get alot of pic's of his Thousand Son's.  I absolutely loved them! Great paintjob and I personally LOVE a consistent looking army.  I would love to see him finish the army, but I believe he's only used them a couple of times, and (if I remember correctly) he's not played chaos in ages either.  Unfortunate, because they would look amazing when completed.

Since he'll swing by and read this, thanks again for a great game.  For being patient with all my questions.. and finally .. Finish painting your Daemon Prince!  Awesome conversion!

...

Oh final note for any competitive audience I may have... He completely destroyed me :-)

BatRep: Chaos vs Space Wolves

Space Wolves
Chaos

Ok, this game recap is very simple BAD ROLLING! Joe and Lars (Chaos), steamrolled Ben and I (Space Wolves).

First turn Razorback shoots Twin Linked Las Cannon at defiler, rolling Snake Eyes... and it went all downhill from there. Terminator Lord rolling 5 attacks, hits with one 6 rend.. the rest 1-3's. Second Terminator rolling four attacks, 1-3's. Leadership rolls, 1 success 3 failures. Pinning test, double sixes. PowerFist, 3 attacks... 1-3's (Twice). It was horrible all the way around.

Only saving grace was Chaos Space Marines losing one model, but having to take a Leadership Test for losing the assault, failed leadership and ran 11" off the board.

Chaos Dread went into fire frenzy and killed more chaos guys, than the Space Wolves.

I don't mind losing, but bad rolling makes for boring games on both sides.

Final nail, DP with 2 remaining wounds wipes a squad that misses all attacks (to include PF), then teams up with Beserkers to assault Grey Hunters squad in cover. Cool we get first strikes.. causing ... 1 wound which is saved. Return fire... squad is wiped. We called it.

More pics, and More (unedited) be patient as were getting used to taking photos, most came out blurry.
