Don't Assault Me... REALLY!

So playing a game with Joe (nids), I was running my 1500pt fun list.  This list is essentially an Land Raider Crusader packed with Assault Termy Goodness!  Logan, Lord with Claws, Heavy Flamer, and TH/SS for 3++.

This list is awesome, makes for quick games... It either wrecks, or flames out... more time than not it goes down in flames, but it causes carnage!  Basically put LRC in full or partial cover.  Depending on who goes first.  Drop the pod to take big stuff out.. these guys got combi, and basically are completely sacrificial.  Total distraction to get my LRC up in combat.

Full 1500pts.. this is it.  And those PCs are proxies for MLs.
So yea... below pic'  do not assault me ... especially when in cover.  Wiped out everything!  Footnote... I LOST this game lol... objectives, and couldn't hold em'... but Joe and I both just laughed and had a great time!
It's all going down.. for the ALLFATHER AND RUSS!!!!

Once LRC rolls up, I get out and stomp until I'm dead, or there's nothing but bodies.

Oh yea, the LRC is from my first Black Templar Army.  I liked the scheme, and it's one of the first vehicles I painted.. so can't bring myself to strip and repaint.

Moving On...

I paid extra close attention to mold lines.

After spending way too much time on one fig, I've moved on.

I have the Daemonettes and Gargoyles built and primed.  Started painting the Gargoyles a bit tonight, was hoping to get more done but I've been slacking.

I stuck as to a scheme for the Daemonettes, thinking a pink base, purple wash, pink/white top coat, white highlights... wow that's a mouthful.

1G Month Two, Tyranids

Tyranids

Month two I was painting alot of big bugs.  I can't convey how much I enjoy painting Tyranids.  The simplicity and the results is just amazing.  Good color scheme that I really dig, plus some simple highlighting, and lastly some "dip"..  Produces a great mini for the tabletop, it's just amazing.

I had painted a Mawlok last month, that makes into this month, however did overdo it.  I painted a Carnifex (also double as a Tervigon), and Trygon/Prime.  I didn't neglect the small guys, finding time to add five more Genestealers and a Broodlord to the list.  On the table this mini-Monster Mash is loads of fun to play.. just ask Joe!

Last month in the back, This months mini's up front
Trygon and Mawlok (note, mouths are NOT glued for easy swap)
Broodlord
Carnifex (note arms are magnetized)
Genestealers, note this month I did make a mistake.  I forgot the highlight prior to the dip :-(
Misc Pictures
Trygon or Trygon Prime

I did this AWESOME color blend on the Bonesword... that was ruined by the dip.  Have to be more careful.
Quasimodo
Broodlord

1G Month Two

MONTH TWO IS DUE
Click for Larger
Month two is in the books.  I've finished all the Space Wolves requirements (1850), save for minor touch-ups here and there.  Orks at 1000 points.  Tyranid total is over a 1000 points.  Chaos total is more than the 1000 points.

I still have to gather up and organize all the photos' but wanted to get the full shot uploaded to show that I met the month two Deadline.

Month Two Paint List
Quick rundown of what I painted this past month

Orks:
11xBoyz, 1xNob, 7xStormboyz, 3xBikez, 3xWarbuggies, 1xWarboss w/ PK, and a Truk.

Chaos:
Completed Rhino, Repainted Defiler, Kharn, repainted Land Raider

Tyranids:
5xGenestealers, 1xCarnifex, 1xTrygon, 1xBroodlord

Space Wolves:
All touch up!  I was missing quite a bit of spots here and there.  Though I got most of it, but going thru the pics, I can see areas I missed.  Optics on Lascannon, mud on a trak, etc.

Final Thoughts
This past month was a bit of a struggle.  I'm still enjoying the painting, but have no real desire to paint Orks.  I found myself painting everything BUT Orks.

I was practicing Slaneesh color schemes on Chaos Terminators, painting blood drops on a Chaos Landraider, painting a Carnifex which isn't due for two months, etc.  Anything but painting Orks.  So I just sat down after work two nights in a row and knocked em' out.

Tyranids

First I must apologize for posting so much, but I have gotten alot done today, PG.  Dipped more nids :-)

Carnifex, Trygon, Broodlord, and Five Genesneekerz ;-)

Reign in Blood

I'm really digging my Chaos guys.  This Khorne theme I have going is sweet!  I decided to name this warband "Reign in Blood", name came to me thinking of what embodies Khorne... First thing that came into mind was Slayer - Raining Blood.

For their badge, I'm painting blood drops raining on a black backdrop.

Tried to paint some drops on the Land Raider... not finished but the base looks ok so far.

Just finished priming a batch of nids, gotta cut this short so I can paint em' up.  Shooting for the dip tomorrow night, LW.

Fex Magnents

Finished up the mold lines on the Carnifex and Termagants.  I honestly believe out of the 180+ mini's I've painted over the last few months, mold lines on the Termagants have been the worst.

Also magnetized the Carnifex, but will probably rework the mount points a bit.  I'm not happy with the posing options.

Talons and Claws want to be way up..
or way down.

No real in between.  Just the way it works unless you go back and rework.
What worked on the Hive Tyrant was putting a dab of paint in the joint, and then putting on the Arm(or Claw) in a position that I liked that I could rotate.  This just didn't work for the Carnifex.  Some really awkward angles, so a little trimming is needed.

Bad pic of Kharn.  Not too worried about pics, as Matt G is "Da Man", and offered to take some Month Two Pics :-)

His pictures make my figs look better than they really are. (unlike my pic above, which makes em' look worse)

1G Moving Forward

Chaos
I've been modifying the Chaos lists as I've become more interested in these 'Spikey Boyz'.  Initially when I decided to paint all this stuff, I just filled out lists with what I had available (or wouldn't totally cost me an arm and a leg).  I've since made alot of changes.

I've moved away from an Abaddon/Black Legion List supported by the followers of Khorne, and switched it around to a Khorne dominated list, supported by Black Legion.  I'm swapping Abbadon for Kharn(sp), making the Bikers Khorne based, and lastly the Chaos Space Marines will have Icon of Khorne.

I plan on keeping the vehicles and a Defiler Black Legion.  World Eaters have broken up into warbands, so I envision it's a Warband of World Eaters that have a few Black Legionaires supporting them.

Orks

Orks have been a bit of a problem.  I have alot of Ork stuff on hand, from back when I first tried to get into 40k, unfortunately I have quite a bit that cannot be used.  Offender, Fast Attack choices.  The only thing I can think of, was that I was trying to do Speed Freaks.  Not knowing anything about the game, I'm sure I just read a list on GW's site, and bought stuff.  The result is I have various fast attack units that I cannot use.

Another issue is Power Klaws, I've got quite a collection of Nobz, from an eBay purchase 3 (or 4) years ago, to Black Reach Nobz... Only one has a Power Klaw.  So I'm scanning eBay when I get home.

Lastly, Orks are cheap from a points standpoint.  I can barely squeeze out an 1850 list, but the models won't be WYSIWIG if I can't find the PKs'.

Tyranids
First and foremost... THANK YOU JOE!

Tyranids was the one army I was starting completely from scratch (if you don't count the fact that a month or so prior I didn't own any Space Wolves either).  So I knew I was going to spend some cash, thou I really didn't want to spend alot.  It's one thing to invest in a hobby to play, etc.  It's another to invest in folly (ie tale of one gamer).

Well this is a problem no longer.  My a buddy of mine (actually more than a buddy, known him since we were 9), and fellow Noobhammer member, plays Nids.  He has been struggling on a color scheme, and never wasn't totally sure what scheme to go with.   I am pleased to announce that when I mentioned my whoas, he thought long and hard and decided to strip the models he had painted already and donate some units to The Cause.

So Joe will be letting me borrow a Carnifex(proxy for Tervigon), Genestealers, and about 6 Termagants so I don't have to purchase anything more (remember, I have a Wayland Games shipment on the way).  It was really cool of him to agree to just paint his army the same scheme I'm using, so I could borrow the figs.

Space Wolves, nada... the Army is done.  Just have to coordinate some time with Matt to take some pictures.

Black Templars... I know.. everyone is saying "What? Templars?"  .. yea, I have a disease.  Since GW updated the FAQ, I may just be painting some of these guys along the way ;-)  I reeeeeally like their fluff!  Just freaking Crusading Zealots, Awesome!

So.. until I finish up the Orks and Trygon on working on... peaCe out ;-)

1G Month One, Tyranids

Disclaimner: Since I didn't plan on posting these all together, they will "appear" out of order.. well if I posted them daily they wouldn't be, but since 'styx' wanted more... posting more.

Of the four Armies I committed to painting for "Tale of One Gamer", this one is my absolute favorite from a pure painting standpoint.  I've never been interested in playing Tyranids, nor interested in their fluff, but I've always wanted to paint them using the dip method.

I should have saved these guys for last, I think they look great.. and the only army left is Space Wolves, and I posted on them numerous times.

So on with the SWARM!

Hive Tyrant (close)
Hive Tyrant (full)

Warriors

Genestealers
Full Army with Gants
Kill Maim Bu...oh boy!
Swarmy

Matt took some great fun shots that I will include in the "Month One Wrapup" post.

Wayland Games Order

More Nids On the Way
For Ben n' Joe :-D

Placed an order from Wayland Games for more Tyranids.  Have some Gargoyles, Genestealers, Termagants, and Broollord on the the way.

While I always like to support the Local Store, it's tough when the closest store is full retail, and isn't what I would call a 40k supporter.  The store across the bay, just stopped providing a 15% discount, and it's 35 minutes one way.

The prices as Wayland Games were just too ridiculous!  Box of Gant's for $19, Terminators for $34, and that's not counting the additional %6 code I got in email!

I also thru in package of five JumpPacks for $9 (Lars' Blood Angels).

While I was going to go with the T.Hive Guard and Hive Guard route.. but even with discount it's a bit pricey to justify for an army I'm tecnically just painting.  If I decide to keep the Army, I can add those guys later.  Besides I have 3xTrygon(Mawloc)'s in the list :-D

More Nids

Mouth isn't glued

So picked this up Thursday, and knocked him out last night.  Thankfully he was already put together, as that saved alot of time.  I primed him Thursday night, and painted him last night, dip was brushed on at 12am or so.  I also finished five Genestealers, no pictures yet.

this thing is huge
I should have put a model in the picture to give a representation of size.  Below you can see I did add some highlights to the claws.
little highlights
Nice drybrush (sorta wet, light overbrush) really added some nice details.
Seymor, Feed Me!
So for painted Tyranids I have:

1xTrygon/Mawlok
12xHormagaunts
5xGenestealers
3xWarriors

I've painted some Orks in between, and need to pick up the pace a bit.  Today I'll pick up 500pts of Chaos, that need alot of work (see summary).  Not sure how I will tackle these already painted figs, I don't have the time to strip them, so I will have to do some touch up work.  All the Chaos bases need to be scraped and redone as well.

I'm shooting to do a summary of progress post on Sunday for each Army.

(EDIT:  I picked up my Orks last night for inventory, unfortunately it appears I will have to strip a majority of these models.  So will take 'styx' advice, and use the tire cleaner he recommended.

Chaos models were surprisingly good, and will only require touch-ups.)

1G Nids and Kickin' it Old Skool

Tyranids
Wrapped up the Tyranid Warriors.  Moved on to trimming up Ork Boysz, and digging thru my bag o' bikes.

old skool
Orks
I have Seven of these guys on hand, and believe I have another three or more at Joe's.  That's alot of bikes.  So they'll go into the list (and save me $$$).  You'll notice a weird base paintjob on them, that's how I got em'  from ebay about ... four years ago.

Can you tell I've wanted to play this game for a long time :-)

Ork Color Scheme
Trying to think of a quick and easy color scheme for the orks.  Leaning towards Red, and the whole Evil Sunz.  They'd look cool, and come out quick.  Will get one painted up and posted.

1G Tyranids: More Stuff

(2)Trygon/Mawloc's and Droppod

Two Trygon/Mawloc and droppod came in today.  This is good, but my Tyranid list actually contains (2) Mawloc's and a Trygon.  So need one more (Lue) haha.

Droppod was actually ordered prior to this debacle I've gotten myself into, so not sure it will fit in these lists, but definitely my Space Wolves play around lists.

The seller of the Droppod was kind enough to add an Ultramarines Symbol to EVERY door, plastic glue, so no popping them off.  Thou, that pod is obviously backburnered for a bit.

Did the guns on my Warriors, they'll be ready for a dip tonight.  Sorta a bummer, don't have the gaunts/HT onhand, and my Chaos/Orks are at Joe's.  Only thing I can think of doing with the time is making more Boyz.  I know I'll need alot.  Also have the old Bikerz sprues, I'm sure I can fit those into a list.

1G Update: Tyranids and Planning

Picture above shows the base paint, prior to the dip.

I see a glaring mistake, please don't click for larger
Dipping Gaunts, Lesson Learned

Here they are finished.  This is my first big dip(brushed on) job.  I did some Plague Marines as a test some time back, it was straightforward.  Brush on, let it set a few minutes, brush away the excess that will flow (like cold syrup) to the feet of the model.  This is NOT how it works on nids.  Due to the shape of the miniature, I had the dip flow downward, settle and dry in areas I would not have chosen.  No worries, first batch and they are table top quality.  I will be more careful in the Future.

Planning
Planned out Paint/Purchase lists for Space Wolves, and Chaos.  I prepared army lists for the aforementioned.  Have yet to accurately inventory my Orks.

This will be a daunting task.  Next few weeks:

(1) Hive Tyrant ($)
(12) Termagaunts ($)
(3) Warriors
(16) Berserkers (touch up paint)
(1) DeffKopta

Not really sure what I got myself into, o.O

1G: Nids First Batch

Forgot my camera last night, took pictures of our game table with cell.  Still have to get the pics off mah cell (ie bluetooth to laptop).

Did a test Hormagaunt.  Primed white, used Fenris Grey/Fortress Grey for plating (didn't care for the purple).  Used Bleached Bone for teeth, talons, and nails.

Used Army Painter Dip, brushed on.  Still wet and pics look like poo', but figure he'll look table top when dry.

Now I've used the "Dip Method" before with Poly-shades.  I purchased the Army Painter dip sometime back. I had assumed it was a product tailored for miniatures, not wood furniture.

I was wrong, it's the same exact stuff only it costs 4x as much.  Really disappointed, before I "dip" anymore, I may switch back to Poly-shades.  I don't want to get half the army dipped, run out, then stressed about matching the color with Poly-shades, or dropping another 4x$$$ for Army Painter dip.

click for larger
I was happy that painting this mini was quick, a bit quicker than I expected.  I probably spent about 12 mins on the mini, and 2 minutes on the dip.  I'll definitely get that time down.  I was taking my time to get familiar with the mini, where armor plates connected, following a good line, etc.  So with the rest I should be able to easily cut that time in half.
