Ebay Fail!

So I was really thinking about doing painting part time to make some cash.  I enjoy painting more than playing, and I like playing.

Instead of selling for ridiculous prices, I want to fill a middle ground.  Offer well painted units, for reasonable prices.. No Golden Daemon $500 figs, but squads painted really well, for a good price.

I wanted to start off on the right foot... and I've already stumbled.

See back in 2007 ebay changed policy stating that your login and email can't be the same, because of scammers.  So sometime around 2009 I logged in to "impulse" buy an item, and it prompted me for a new email.  I put in my doomicon gmail address, and it was denied.  So I just threw in a temp address "bogus+something@gmail.com"  (note, bogus+something isn't the real address, using as an example as if someone were to magically access the address, they'd get the money) and used that and purchased the item.  Heck, my paypal email address is the first one, no issues...

Fast forward to 2012 and SELLING (not buying).  So I sell my first item on eBay.  It moves to "pending payment" status... only I don't get an email?  I login to Paypal.. nothing .. nada.

I started searching and found this:

http://reviews.ebay.com/Changing-your-email-address-to-receive-payments?ugid=10000000004224189

I checked my email, and lo it was the broken one.  I changed it, and as SOON as I changed it, I received an email that payment was sent to...

"Hello bogus+something@gmail.com,

You've received new funds!

Simply click the link below and complete PayPal's one-page registration form to claim your money:

https://www.paypal.com/au/links/uni/email=bogus+something@gmail.com

So yup.. the funds are waiting for "bogus+something@gmail.com" .. an email that is bogus (yes it has a "+" sign).

So I had to send a 'I completely fail' email to my first customer, and explained the situation.

Technically the customer can just give me a negative ding.  Hopefully they won't.  I offered to send a bunch of SW sprues on my dime.  Since the box is packed so tight I couldn't fit a Bolt Pistol if I wanted to.

So sold for $535, cost me a little over $50 to sell on eBay, and I'll have to foot another $60 to send sprues.  But .. if it keeps my first customer happy, I'll fly to Australia with the package, and tell my wife I always wanted to take her to Austrilia :-)

Ebay Space Wolves Army

For those bidders that follow the blog link (I honestly didn't think anyone would, but hey cool!).
Models I painted in two months for 1G.. I think the was the Month 2 shot?

DO NOT BUY THE SPACE WOLVES CODEX!  It's included in the auction, I just forgot to list it!

Good Luck!  Stay in touch!  Send me pics of the Army in Action, and I'll post em' here :-)

To answer the Question, Matt Galvin isn't me.  Good friend of mine who's an amateur photographer, he took the really good pics :-)  If the pic doesn't have a watermark, then I took them.  I do take decent pics (if I may say so), and will do a post on how to setup lighting, camera settings, macro shots, etc.

Thx
Rob

Ebay it's a Conspiracy!

So I've always been one of those guys that always has that ebay conspiracy thing going... You know, when you're bidding on an item, and then someone with 0 feedback starts driving up the price.

My first thought is always, "The seller is using a separate account to drive up the price!"... guess what.  It's happening on MY AUCTION!  I have a bidder from "down under" that's winning my auction and has ZERO feedback :-(

I don't want to deny the guy an opportunity, but I do have two concerns.  I've only sold a few items on ebay in my near 14 years as a member.  I've only had one "bad" experience, and it was with a member who had ZERO feedback.

Secondly, honestly if I were bidding on this auction a week ago, I would think it was suspect.  Now having seen it first hand from the seller perspective, I feel better about purchasing on eBay... but still doesn't help my auction.

I'm debating updating the description in my second auction, and asking people with ZERO feedback to refrain from bidding.  I was going to update my current auction, but unfortunately can't as it has less than 12 hours to completion.

I think I'll keep trucking along.  People have to start somewhere, and with the prices of GW products in Australia, I don't want to prevent someone from possibly getting a cool army for the cost of a couple of Land Raiders :-)

Footnote, I didn't realize as the seller you get to see the full member name of the person bidding, and where they are located.  Pretty Cool... and yes it's been that long since I sold something on eBay :-)

UPDATE!  After discussing with my friends here at work, they're no help, they've just added to the conspiracy...  "What if someone creates a new account on purpose to use his new ZERO feedback to stall an auction to get a better price!"... UGH!  This is an endless circle.

Project Ebay

I purchase all my 40k stuff used on eBay.  It's not much, but you can really add some pieces here and there to your army.

I only buy used, so it does take a bit of work to get them ready, and you have to be careful with your purchases.

Thought I would show an example of a purchase, and show how I get them ready for my SW Army.

Today, I had a shipment come in.  I picked up "Space Wolf Terminators x 4" for $28.50 including shipping (if I remember correctly).

Actually, I noticed in the photo included, it was actually 4 x Terminators and 1 x Njal :-)  Yup, some termies, and a $22.50 Model, for $28.50.

So here is a pic of what I have to work with.  The base coat existing didn't appear to be too think based on the pic, and it was the right base color, so I won't strip these.  I track the progress :-)

BEFORE PICS...

Note, took with phone.. no need for detail :-)

Don't Assault Me... REALLY!

So playing a game with Joe (nids), I was running my 1500pt fun list.  This list is essentially an Land Raider Crusader packed with Assault Termy Goodness!  Logan, Lord with Claws, Heavy Flamer, and TH/SS for 3++.

This list is awesome, makes for quick games... It either wrecks, or flames out... more time than not it goes down in flames, but it causes carnage!  Basically put LRC in full or partial cover.  Depending on who goes first.  Drop the pod to take big stuff out.. these guys got combi, and basically are completely sacrificial.  Total distraction to get my LRC up in combat.

Full 1500pts.. this is it.  And those PCs are proxies for MLs.
So yea... below pic'  do not assault me ... especially when in cover.  Wiped out everything!  Footnote... I LOST this game lol... objectives, and couldn't hold em'... but Joe and I both just laughed and had a great time!
It's all going down.. for the ALLFATHER AND RUSS!!!!

Once LRC rolls up, I get out and stomp until I'm dead, or there's nothing but bodies.

Oh yea, the LRC is from my first Black Templar Army.  I liked the scheme, and it's one of the first vehicles I painted.. so can't bring myself to strip and repaint.

Heyoh!

It's been awhile since my last post.  Found some older pics that never made it.. they were interesting, so giving them a post.

Noobhammer group is still playing every Saturday.  We've mixed up armies a bit for variety, and I have to say... Chaos sucks against 5ed Armies.  Fun to play, but geesh!

I bought all of Jawaballs Dark Eldar, *Thanks Jawa!*, and have alot of figs and raiders to put together.  Think this will be my last army.  With the announcement that UK shops can't ship to the U.S. (no more waylandgames.co.uk orders), and announcement of price hikes.   I'm done.  This is a fun game... but not that fun.  I have plenty of figs to keep me going.  If I can't find it on eBay, then so be it.

On to some interesting pics in the collection (thanks to MattG)

Blood drops on Chaos Landraider

LITERALLY, 3 minutes max on base colors, and a DIP!  Wanted to see how fast I could crank out a fig!

Terminators

So I'm really addicted to Terminators.  They're awesome models, a ton of fun, and in specific situations when used correctly they pwn.

Some highlights of my top Three favorite Terminator moments.

3.  Drop Pod Done Wrong (fail moment, epic funny!)
So early in my gaming, I loaded up 5 Assault Terms in a droppod, and then proceeded to drop them right in front of a Chaos Castle.. Havoks, Plague Marines, CSM all bubble wrapping a Defiler.  Hey we were noobs without vehicles... that Battlecannon sucked when your on foot.

Yes, I have pictures of that Epic n00b Fail moment!

Prior to getting shot to pieces!  3++ is good, T4 and 1 wound.. isn't.

So yea I learned a valuable lesson in, not being able to assault the turn you arrive.. how NOT to allocate wounds, and that a massed amount of Bolter fire can kill Terms.  Given enough dice to roll for saves.. you will roll ones.

There was a saving grace to this moment..  With the two terms left that didn't run away, I was assaulted by the CSM's.  I only caused ONE wound!  That's bad rolling... HOWEVER, I won combat by .. you guessed it one wound, CSM proceeded to fail their leadership roll (boxcars), and proceeded to run 11" .. yeup, right off the board ;-)  Hilarious moment, Noobhammer Gang will not soon forget.

2.  Getting it Right
So against the guys I play, I got bored of running Rune Priest, Grey Hunter, etc.  I threw Logan and some terms in a Land Raider Redeemer.  Fighting a close Annihilation game against Joe's nids.  He kept his Mawlok under ground to prevent giving up a VP.  It was that close.  His warriors, genestealers and Broodlord were already in my backfiled eating thru Long Fangs...  Turn 5, my LRR is finaly there...  I rolled up, Flamestorm, Heavy Flamer, Assualt... fin.

They freakin wiped EVERYTHING!  The awesomesauce!

1. Droppod Done Right!
Same game against Joe's nids (see moment 2. Getting it Right).  It was our first game at 1850 points.  That's ALOT of bugs, and Joe was trying out the Swamlord for the first time.  Spearhead deployment, he hides the SwarmLord behind a Trygon for cover.

I get first turn.  I drop my lone pod of 'shooty' Terminators 10" behind his SwarmLord (no cover from this angle), and proceed to epic roll combi plasma and assault cannon downing the SwarmLord before his first movement phase.  I just remember Joe's simple "that sucked"...

Been Awhile

So got promoted at work (yay!), but has left me a bit busy.  I have been tinkering around with some Wolves.  Played a fun list with Logan and 12 or so Terminators (long fangs n' such to fill in).  It was alot of fun, and a departure from what a normally play.

Fun to me is any list that is a departure from what I may normally play.  So normally it's Grey Hunters in Rhino's, Long Fangs galore, throw in melta and a Rune Priest or two and BAM!

That has gotten bit tired.  I need to mix it up, keep it fresh :-)

I've got alot on the paint table, and with some time freed up, need to get it organized and take some pictures.  Keep an eye out.

Not finished yet, but so far so good.

Games Play, Picked up a Brush

I've taken about a two week break from painting and it has been nice.  Just to get stuff done around the house, and play a couple of games in between.

Played a good Chaos vs. Tyranids... I play against Tyranids ALOT!

I ran a DP (wings/lash), two squads of Berzerkers (Rhino/Land Raider), squad of CSM w/ Rhine (MoS), 8xDaemonettes, and round it out with two Defilers.

This list proved to be freakishly devastating against Nids.  Defilers actually didn't do much, Zerkers with an Assault vehicle stomped.  Daemonettes did their job, as well as the CSM with MoS (initiative 5).

Second game, the group mixed things up a bit.  Our Nid player Joe joined me for some SW action, and see how it is from my side of the table, while Ben wanted to try Joe's nids.  The only thing Ben knows of Nids is what he's seen against them.

I brought two lists, Joe rolled for which one to use.. Wolfstar.

This was a one-sided battle that started off horribly (rolling), but in the end we won, only losing two models.

After a two week hiatus, decided to paint up a couple of 'shooty' Terminators.  I have plently of Assault Terminators, so thought I would use the last bits I had laying around to paint up two guys with guns.

Some base colors done.

1G Month Two, Space Wolves

Space Wolves
Month two has seen me complete the four month requirement for Space Wolves.  I have a bit over 1850 painted to a "Table Top" quality.  I am missing some minor things, lenses, mud on tracks, etc., however I am happy with them and will continue to work on them.

Matt was cool enough to take pictures of the entire batch, so without further delay may I present the full gambit of my Space Wolves.

Wolf Priest, Wolf Guard Battle Leader, and Rune Priest
Two Rhino's, Three ten man Grey Hunter Squads

Two Razorbacks for two five man Long Fang Squads
Two Drop Pods, carry Wolf Guard Terminators (8), or Blood Claws (8+Lukas and Wolf Priest)

1G Month Two

MONTH TWO IS DUE
Click for Larger
Month two is in the books.  I've finished all the Space Wolves requirements (1850), save for minor touch-ups here and there.  Orks at 1000 points.  Tyranid total is over a 1000 points.  Chaos total is more than the 1000 points.

I still have to gather up and organize all the photos' but wanted to get the full shot uploaded to show that I met the month two Deadline.

Month Two Paint List
Quick rundown of what I painted this past month

Orks:
11xBoyz, 1xNob, 7xStormboyz, 3xBikez, 3xWarbuggies, 1xWarboss w/ PK, and a Truk.

Chaos:
Completed Rhino, Repainted Defiler, Kharn, repainted Land Raider

Tyranids:
5xGenestealers, 1xCarnifex, 1xTrygon, 1xBroodlord

Space Wolves:
All touch up!  I was missing quite a bit of spots here and there.  Though I got most of it, but going thru the pics, I can see areas I missed.  Optics on Lascannon, mud on a trak, etc.

Final Thoughts
This past month was a bit of a struggle.  I'm still enjoying the painting, but have no real desire to paint Orks.  I found myself painting everything BUT Orks.

I was practicing Slaneesh color schemes on Chaos Terminators, painting blood drops on a Chaos Landraider, painting a Carnifex which isn't due for two months, etc.  Anything but painting Orks.  So I just sat down after work two nights in a row and knocked em' out.

1G Moving Forward

Chaos
I've been modifying the Chaos lists as I've become more interested in these 'Spikey Boyz'.  Initially when I decided to paint all this stuff, I just filled out lists with what I had available (or wouldn't totally cost me an arm and a leg).  I've since made alot of changes.

I've moved away from an Abaddon/Black Legion List supported by the followers of Khorne, and switched it around to a Khorne dominated list, supported by Black Legion.  I'm swapping Abbadon for Kharn(sp), making the Bikers Khorne based, and lastly the Chaos Space Marines will have Icon of Khorne.

I plan on keeping the vehicles and a Defiler Black Legion.  World Eaters have broken up into warbands, so I envision it's a Warband of World Eaters that have a few Black Legionaires supporting them.

Orks

Orks have been a bit of a problem.  I have alot of Ork stuff on hand, from back when I first tried to get into 40k, unfortunately I have quite a bit that cannot be used.  Offender, Fast Attack choices.  The only thing I can think of, was that I was trying to do Speed Freaks.  Not knowing anything about the game, I'm sure I just read a list on GW's site, and bought stuff.  The result is I have various fast attack units that I cannot use.

Another issue is Power Klaws, I've got quite a collection of Nobz, from an eBay purchase 3 (or 4) years ago, to Black Reach Nobz... Only one has a Power Klaw.  So I'm scanning eBay when I get home.

Lastly, Orks are cheap from a points standpoint.  I can barely squeeze out an 1850 list, but the models won't be WYSIWIG if I can't find the PKs'.

Tyranids
First and foremost... THANK YOU JOE!

Tyranids was the one army I was starting completely from scratch (if you don't count the fact that a month or so prior I didn't own any Space Wolves either).  So I knew I was going to spend some cash, thou I really didn't want to spend alot.  It's one thing to invest in a hobby to play, etc.  It's another to invest in folly (ie tale of one gamer).

Well this is a problem no longer.  My a buddy of mine (actually more than a buddy, known him since we were 9), and fellow Noobhammer member, plays Nids.  He has been struggling on a color scheme, and never wasn't totally sure what scheme to go with.   I am pleased to announce that when I mentioned my whoas, he thought long and hard and decided to strip the models he had painted already and donate some units to The Cause.

So Joe will be letting me borrow a Carnifex(proxy for Tervigon), Genestealers, and about 6 Termagants so I don't have to purchase anything more (remember, I have a Wayland Games shipment on the way).  It was really cool of him to agree to just paint his army the same scheme I'm using, so I could borrow the figs.

Space Wolves, nada... the Army is done.  Just have to coordinate some time with Matt to take some pictures.

Black Templars... I know.. everyone is saying "What? Templars?"  .. yea, I have a disease.  Since GW updated the FAQ, I may just be painting some of these guys along the way ;-)  I reeeeeally like their fluff!  Just freaking Crusading Zealots, Awesome!

So.. until I finish up the Orks and Trygon on working on... peaCe out ;-)

1G Month One, Space Wolves

Edit, posted all FOUR armies that were due, scroll down for all ...

Should've posted these guys earlier as I figure the few people that view this blog have to be sick of seeing them.  I lost my original 500 pt list when I upgraded Army Builder, so I guestimated what 500pts was.  I have since completed all 1850+ points of this army.  I hope to have Matt come around a take some pictures.

So on with the Space Wolves 500 (and some extra SW pics)...

Wolf Guard HQ with Terminator Armor
Grey Hunter with Power Fist
Two Grey Hunter squads Flamer/Melta Powerfist
Some Extras that have been painted.. yea me in the background
Thanks for those enjoying the blog, feel free to let me know what you would like to see, or have me post.  I do plan on focusing on some Battle Reports.  Until then back to painting...

Painting at Joe's, note the pallette lol.. :-)

Space Wolves Get Some Love

I've finished all the "Tale of One Gamer (1G)" 500pt armies for next Monday.. *whew*.  So I've eagerly put myself to work on my beloved wolfies with the little time I have available.

Rhino, Rhino, Drop Pod, RazorBack, Long Fangs, Terminator Heavy Flamer and Power Weapon.
(Left to Right/Back to Front) .. if you squint really hard there is a completed Hive Tyrant hiding in the back :-)
Needed to knock out some vehicles and some Troops.  I don't like fielding unpainted models, and have been for two weeks now.  Hopefully this Saturday all will be completed.

Note the Ultramarines markings that have been grinded off the droppod.  These will get covered with SW bits.
If I can get all this completed by Saturday, it will complete my entire 1G Space Wolves till final due date; 1850pts.

One more to prime, I have alot of empty boxes, and ALOT of Sprues!!!!
Knocking out all of these various figs and models over the last few months has left me with a pile of boxes, and an absolutely ridiculous amount of sprues!

Feels good to be building on my core army again, still have to figure out which 1G armies will get the eBay axe when I'm completed.

Painting Space Wolves Terminator Part 1

I took step-by-step pictures of painting my Space Wolves Terminator, and never posted an article.

Better late than never :-)

As always, click image for larger.

Primed Black then apply base color

First step is the prime the model black, and apply base coat over the model.  For my base coat I use a custom color mix of Shadow Grey, Space Wolves Grey and Skull White.  This mix is thinned with water.  If I had to do them over, I would skip the custom color and use Fenris Grey, as it just plain roxorz!  Let this dry!

Asurmen Blue Wash entire model

Next step is to apply an Asurmen Blue Wash over the entire model.  This will give you a blue tinge, without looking all 'My Little Pony Blue'.  Let this dry thoroughly!

Badab Black Wash
After the blue wash has thoroughly dried, I paint the claws Boltgun metal, and then apply a Badeb Black Wash over the model.  Let it dry thoroughly!

Drybrush Base Color, paint detail bits.  Face, Bronze Areas, Hair, etc.
Ok final steps for this article... I know I missed some pictures inbetween, but bear with me.  After the Black Wash is dry, you want to take the ORIGINAL base color you used, and drybrush the entire model.  Essentially you want to put the base color back on (not just extreme edges), but not too much.  My goal is a "dirtier" rough look.

I have a lighter/thinner custom color (see mix above), that I use for regular troops, and to highlight the edges of armor for my terminators.  Due to it being a bit thinner, you can goof and it typically blends in nicely.  I'll use this color to highlight any armor joints.  I typically stick to the 'simple' stuff I can overbrush.  Overbrushing is a technique where you are not drybrushing, but painting raised areas.  Wish good brush positioning, you can highlight a model nicely, without the need for a steady hand, by just running the brush along the edges.

After your base color, paint all your bits in the base colors you chose.  I use Dwarf Bronze, Red Gore, Calthan Brown (any fur), Bleached Bone for the Crux on the left shoulder pad, Fortress Grey for Hair (darker/lighter depending).  I use a Tallarn Flesh for the skin.

That's it for the base stuff, Next time I'll cover the washes and any highlighting of the remaining bitz.
