WIP, Terminators
Started on the Terminators. Have a base color. Sorta playing around deciding on what the other colors will be. I tend to just play around with colors till it comes together. If I don't like something, I'll clean paint from an area, cover, and restart.

Ebay in Progress

Project Ebay
I purchase all my 40k stuff used on eBay. It's not much, but you can really add some pieces here and there to your army.
I only buy used, so it does take a bit of work to get them ready, and you have to be careful with your purchases.
Thought I would show an example of a purchase, and show how I get them ready for my SW Army.
Today, I had a shipment come in. I picked up "Space Wolf Terminators x 4" for $28.50 including shipping (if I remember correctly).
Actually, I noticed in the photo included, it was actually 4 x Terminators and 1 x Njal :-) Yup, some termies, and a $22.50 Model, for $28.50.
So here is a pic of what I have to work with. The base coat existing didn't appear to be too think based on the pic, and it was the right base color, so I won't strip these. I track the progress :-)

Painting Blood Angels
While I am sticking with my boycott of Games Workshop, I still have plenty of armies laying around. Started painting a Blood Angels Chaplain with jump pack.

Been Awhile
So got promoted at work (yay!), but has left me a bit busy. I have been tinkering around with some Wolves. Played a fun list with Logan and 12 or so Terminators (long fangs n' such to fill in). It was alot of fun, and a departure from what a normally play.
Fun to me is any list that is a departure from what I may normally play. So normally it's Grey Hunters in Rhino's, Long Fangs galore, throw in melta and a Rune Priest or two and BAM!
That has gotten bit tired. I need to mix it up, keep it fresh :-)
I've got alot on the paint table, and with some time freed up, need to get it organized and take some pictures. Keep an eye out.

Games Play, Picked up a Brush
I've taken about a two week break from painting and it has been nice. Just to get stuff done around the house, and play a couple of games in between.
Played a good Chaos vs. Tyranids... I play against Tyranids ALOT!
I ran a DP (wings/lash), two squads of Berzerkers (Rhino/Land Raider), squad of CSM w/ Rhine (MoS), 8xDaemonettes, and round it out with two Defilers.
This list proved to be freakishly devastating against Nids. Defilers actually didn't do much, Zerkers with an Assault vehicle stomped. Daemonettes did their job, as well as the CSM with MoS (initiative 5).
Second game, the group mixed things up a bit. Our Nid player Joe joined me for some SW action, and see how it is from my side of the table, while Ben wanted to try Joe's nids. The only thing Ben knows of Nids is what he's seen against them.
I brought two lists, Joe rolled for which one to use.. Wolfstar.
This was a one-sided battle that started off horribly (rolling), but in the end we won, only losing two models.
After a two week hiatus, decided to paint up a couple of 'shooty' Terminators. I have plently of Assault Terminators, so thought I would use the last bits I had laying around to paint up two guys with guns.
Some base colors done.

Chaos Take Four
Still mucking around with the color schemes. I really like the Red/Purple, however trying to get it right is tough. For one, I don't see it the way everyone else does.
I have gone with a darker purple, and still trying to land the red. I included a "before" picture. As some of you know, the Chaos figs are in disarray and I'm repainting. So I have my Icon Bearer that is coming up next.
As you can see, I'm just going to keep painting the squad, and compare figs to determine the colors I like :-)

Moving On...
I paid extra close attention to mold lines.
After spending way too much time on one fig, I've moved on.
I have the Daemonettes and Gargoyles built and primed. Started painting the Gargoyles a bit tonight, was hoping to get more done but I've been slacking.
I stuck as to a scheme for the Daemonettes, thinking a pink base, purple wash, pink/white top coat, white highlights... wow that's a mouthful.

1G Month Two
MONTH TWO IS DUE![]() |
Click for Larger (Photo by Matt Galvin)
I still have to gather up and organize all the photos' but wanted to get the full shot uploaded to show that I met the month two Deadline.
Month Two Paint List
Quick rundown of what I painted this past month
Orks:
11xBoyz, 1xNob, 7xStormboyz, 3xBikez, 3xWarbuggies, 1xWarboss w/ PK, and a Truk.
Chaos:
Completed Rhino, Repainted Defiler, Kharn, repainted Land Raider
Tyranids:
5xGenestealers, 1xCarnifex, 1xTrygon, 1xBroodlord
Space Wolves:
All touch up! I was missing quite a bit of spots here and there. Though I got most of it, but going thru the pics, I can see areas I missed. Optics on Lascannon, mud on a trak, etc.
Final Thoughts
This past month was a bit of a struggle. I'm still enjoying the painting, but have no real desire to paint Orks. I found myself painting everything BUT Orks. I was practicing Slaneesh color schemes on Chaos Terminators, painting blood drops on a Chaos Landraider, painting a Carnifex which isn't due for two months, etc. Anything but painting Orks. So I just sat down after work two nights in a row and knocked em' out.

Space Wolves Get Some Love
I've finished all the "Tale of One Gamer (1G)" 500pt armies for next Monday.. *whew*. So I've eagerly put myself to work on my beloved wolfies with the little time I have available.
If I can get all this completed by Saturday, it will complete my entire 1G Space Wolves till final due date; 1850pts.
Knocking out all of these various figs and models over the last few months has left me with a pile of boxes, and an absolutely ridiculous amount of sprues!
Feels good to be building on my core army again, still have to figure out which 1G armies will get the eBay axe when I'm completed.
Note the Ultramarines markings that have been grinded off the droppod. These will get covered with SW bits.
One more to prime, I have alot of empty boxes, and ALOT of Sprues!!!!

Painting Space Wolves Terminator Part 1
I took step-by-step pictures of painting my Space Wolves Terminator, and never posted an article.
Better late than never :-)
As always, click image for larger.
First step is the prime the model black, and apply base coat over the model. For my base coat I use a custom color mix of Shadow Grey, Space Wolves Grey and Skull White. This mix is thinned with water. If I had to do them over, I would skip the custom color and use Fenris Grey, as it just plain roxorz! Let this dry!
Next step is to apply an Asurmen Blue Wash over the entire model. This will give you a blue tinge, without looking all 'My Little Pony Blue'. Let this dry thoroughly!
After the blue wash has thoroughly dried, I paint the claws Boltgun metal, and then apply a Badeb Black Wash over the model. Let it dry thoroughly!
Ok final steps for this article... I know I missed some pictures inbetween, but bear with me. After the Black Wash is dry, you want to take the ORIGINAL base color you used, and drybrush the entire model. Essentially you want to put the base color back on (not just extreme edges), but not too much. My goal is a "dirtier" rough look.
I have a lighter/thinner custom color (see mix above), that I use for regular troops, and to highlight the edges of armor for my terminators. Due to it being a bit thinner, you can goof and it typically blends in nicely. I'll use this color to highlight any armor joints. I typically stick to the 'simple' stuff I can overbrush. Overbrushing is a technique where you are not drybrushing, but painting raised areas. Wish good brush positioning, you can highlight a model nicely, without the need for a steady hand, by just running the brush along the edges.
After your base color, paint all your bits in the base colors you chose. I use Dwarf Bronze, Red Gore, Calthan Brown (any fur), Bleached Bone for the Crux on the left shoulder pad, Fortress Grey for Hair (darker/lighter depending). I use a Tallarn Flesh for the skin.
That's it for the base stuff, Next time I'll cover the washes and any highlighting of the remaining bitz.

1G: Basing Orks
Bases
Just a quick rundown on how I do all my bases. Nothing fancy, I use the same sand that is on our "OverEngineeredYetIncomplete" game table.
Elmer's(PVA) Glue directly on base, drop in front and in back
Using a really wet brush, spread it around
Dunk directly into bowel o' sand
move around a bit
Done
In the past I would premix 50/50 water/glue, but found it almost always was too thin. This is superquick, and provides more control. Too thick, just dunk the brush in the water and keep spreading.
When it's all dry, I'll use the same brush (cleaned of course), wet it, and go around the base to clean up the dust. OR just use my finger :-)
Just about done with the Boyz n' Orks. Shooting for Sunday night to have them complete. That will give me a week for the Berserkers, and hopefully leave me a week to do any early work for the second due date.

Starting Blood Angels
Hi my name is Lars son of Doomicon and I am 13. I have been painting for about two months now, I just started Blood Angles and they are beast (I have only played them once lol). So here are my fig's so far.
My two favorite models so far my Librarian(above), and random fig(below).
The base color is blood red with Baal red wash not once but twice with a half delvin mud wash and half water between. So far so good I feel they're going to come out Rawsome.

This model here is one of my favorite just because of his pose is Rawsome, and he has been promoted to Sergeant with the skull on his head gold (just after pictures were taken).

More Nids
Mouth isn't glued
So picked this up Thursday, and knocked him out last night. Thankfully he was already put together, as that saved alot of time. I primed him Thursday night, and painted him last night, dip was brushed on at 12am or so. I also finished five Genestealers, no pictures yet.

Seymor, Feed Me!
1xTrygon/Mawlok
12xHormagaunts
5xGenestealers
3xWarriors
I've painted some Orks in between, and need to pick up the pace a bit. Today I'll pick up 500pts of Chaos, that need alot of work (see summary). Not sure how I will tackle these already painted figs, I don't have the time to strip them, so I will have to do some touch up work. All the Chaos bases need to be scraped and redone as well.
I'm shooting to do a summary of progress post on Sunday for each Army.
(EDIT: I picked up my Orks last night for inventory, unfortunately it appears I will have to strip a majority of these models. So will take 'styx' advice, and use the tire cleaner he recommended.
Chaos models were surprisingly good, and will only require touch-ups.)

1G, Orks
Worked on some boyz, deffkopta, and put some more bikes together. Sorry for the bad pic, the model on the far right is a completed "base".
Base, is tabletop ready, with room for improvement. When time allots between due dates, I will paint extra bits. I would rather have a good plain mini that I can improve on, instead of a detailed poop job.
Well back to mold lines on bikes while the washes are drying ;-)

Tried for better pictures, lighting wasn't right.

1G Nids and Kickin' it Old Skool
Tyranids
Wrapped up the Tyranid Warriors. Moved on to trimming up Ork Boysz, and digging thru my bag o' bikes.
old skool
Orks
I have Seven of these guys on hand, and believe I have another three or more at Joe's. That's alot of bikes. So they'll go into the list (and save me $$$). You'll notice a weird base paintjob on them, that's how I got em' from ebay about ... four years ago. Can you tell I've wanted to play this game for a long time :-)
Ork Color Scheme
Trying to think of a quick and easy color scheme for the orks. Leaning towards Red, and the whole Evil Sunz. They'd look cool, and come out quick. Will get one painted up and posted.
